Jairo Marin is the Miami-based managing editor for the prime-time news magazine “Aqui y Ahora” broadcasted nationally by the Spanish-language television network Univision.
For six years, Marin was the News Director at KMEX-TV, Channel 34 in Los Angeles, Univision’s flagship station.
Before being promoted to the position of News Director, Marin was the 6 PM producer for KMEX for four years.
Marin is originally from Colombia where he received a BA in Communications-Journalism. He worked as a reporter for national TV until he moved to New York in 1989. He received his Master’s Degree in International Journalism from the University of Southern California U.S.C. in 1992.
Marin has published articles in several national and regional publications, among them Los Angeles Times, L.A. Weekly, The Philadelphia Inquirer, New York Daily News, The Advocate, Manhattan Spirit, El Diario-La Prensa, La Opinion (Los Angeles), Revista Semana (Colombia), El Colombiano (Medellin, Colombia).
Marin has received many journalism recognitions, among them, several Los Angeles Area Emmys, awards from The Southern California Radio & TV News Association Golden Mikes, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists Award, a Gabriel award from the Catholic Academy for Communication Arts Professionals, and a GLAAD award.
Marin is a member of the International Committee to Protect Journalists, CPJ; the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, NAHJ; Investigative Reporters and Editors, IRE; Santa Monica College Media Advisory Board and The Carole Kneeland Project for Responsible TV Journalism Advisory Board.
